Our AIA community includes many people working together with excellent results. Steven Covey said, “Synergy is better than my way or your way, it’s our way.” I notice this in our committee work and representative outreach. I would love to share updates from our committees and reps:

  • Representatives: Promoting local, regional, and all-member community relationships. We are grateful for how active our reps are and the number of AIA Representatives continues to grow. Look for your rep in the journal and if you don’t see one in your area, connect during the all-member rep meetings – or fill out an application and join the fun. The AIA Co-Global Reps and Rep Mentor provide a supportive environment for all reps.
  • Business & Fundraising: Implementing ways to support AIA Business Members and AIA Members who own or want to own a business. Check out the Business Members listed in the journal.             AIA Research Academy Mentoring Program

            Do you want to publish a case study? We can help!

            We are reaching out from the AIA Research Academy to see if you want mentoring to help you publish your case study. This group mentoring series is designed to be fun and motivating. Our goal is to have you ready to submit your case study for publication by December 2025.

            For the 2025 Group Mentee Series, mentees must already have completed their case study and received feedback. AIA Mentors will guide you from your next steps through submission. This series is held in collaboration with the Alliance of International Aromatherapists' Journal, Aromatics in Action, and we will provide those case study guidelines. If you wish to publish elsewhere, simply include that information in your application.

            Your first step is to complete this short, eight-question application. We are excited to work with you!

            This presentation provides foundational information on searching the literature, specifically PubMed, and on organizing citations using Zotero. The title "Big Rocks First!" illustrates how projects, such as research including case studies, fit together better when the big rocks (i.e., quality search and citation management) are put in place at the beginning. The rest of the information (sand) in the research fills in the space around this foundation.

            Learner Outcomes:

            • By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to formulate effective research questions using the PICO framework.

            • By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to verbalize how to construct advanced search strings using Boolean operators, quotation marks, and parentheses.

            • By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to organize and manage references using tools like Zotero for efficient research documentation. ​


            Dr. Marian “Marnie” Reven is a passionate leader, change agent, and lover of life with her husband and family in the Appalachian region of the US. Marnie is a Professor of Nursing at West Virginia University, and both a Certified and a Registered AromatherapistTM. She is a published researcher and has written for publication enough times to know that starting with the end in mind is of great importance. Dr. Reven mentors up-and-coming researchers and supports them as they work to share their findings in aromatherapy and related fields.
